      Install Tips
How to estimate & install Yardstone (max 24" in height)

    Step 1
    Estimating & Ordering

Estimating is easy with Yardstone. The same size block is used for the base, the wall block, and the capstone block. Vertical walls can be built to a maximum of 6 courses or 600mm (24" including base course).
    Method A
    Straight or curved
    (with gaps at back)
    Method B
    Straight or curved
    (without gaps)

    Step 2
    Excavation & Base Preparation

Excavate a trench for the base course to a depth of 200mm (8" below finished grade--ensure topsoil is removed). The trench width should be 250mm (10"). Spread 100mm (4") of crushed gravel in the trench, leveling and compacting it to provide a firm base for the wall.

Levelling Tip: Place screeding guides approximately 100mm (4") below the final grade. Fill with the base material and screed to level.

    Step 3
    Base Course & Wall Construction

Start placing the base course at the lowest grade point.

Check alignment and levelling of base course and adjust if necessary.

Continue with additional courses, backfill behind the wall with granular fill as you go. Fill after every second course.

Remember, when wall layout requires gaps between pieces--the cap stone pieces will also have gaps.

Helpful Hint: Yardstone modules are designed to construct small radius curves without cutting. Each piece is reversible and therefore works for inside or outside curves.

    Step 4
    Curves & Corners

Solid straight wall sections are easily achieved. Simply reverse alternate pieces.

Construct 90° curved corners and circles by placing the small side of the block to the rear of the wall.

Just curve it! That's the beauty of Yardstone... We recommend designing curves that closely fit Yardstone angles. however, to eliminate cutting, the backs of blocks may be gapped to generate any diameter.

Simply gap the back of blocks as desired to create larger radius curves and desired wall alignment.
    The freedom is unlimited!

    Step 5
    Cap Stone Installation

Using the smooth-top Yardstone, place construction adhesive along the last course and secure the cap stone in position.

    Step 6
    Step Construction

Curved or half round steps can be achieved with Yardstone, by filling the tread with paving stones. See step 4 "Curves & Corners" for curve details.

Construction Tip: For walls with steps, build the main wall and returns first, then construct steps.

    Step 7
    90° Corner Detail

90° degree corners are constructed using the 8" and 5" corner pieces.

Alternate the 8" and 5" corner pieces on each subsequent row and glue each corner unit in place with construction adhesive (see diagram).
