Hwy 16 Processing Entrance for agg op highlights2

Northern Alberta Updates: Highway 16 North Project

This pit was our first in this region and still operates as our flagship pit supplying our Ready Mix Division with washed aggregate. The following are a few highlights of what BURNCO has completed since the project started in 2007:

  • Range Road 33 has been widened and paved from our extraction site located at NW 22-53-3-W5M to Highway 16. This was a community investment initiative of BURNCO.

  • The intersection has been upgraded at Range Road 33 and Highway 16 along with the installation of a deceleration lane for traffic exiting the highway.

  • Sound barrier berms have been constructed.

  •  Air quality and sound monitoring stations continue to monitor our operations.•    The washplant metal screens have been replaced with polyurethane screens to suppress the sounds of the rocks on the screen deck.

  • Highline power has been installed at the processing site and extraction site to power the washplant, scales, lights and other equipment replacing four  generators.

What’s Next?

Going forward there are four additional quarter sections that will be permitted for gravel extraction as we complete mining on the two permitted quarter sections. We will begin community consultation as we get closer to preparing these applications in 2012.
