BURNCO Celebrates 100 Years
Calgary, Alberta – June 21, 2012 – BURNCO celebrates its 100th anniversary with a series of events taking place throughout Alberta and British Columbia culminating in today’s event in Calgary on our actual birthday. Founded in Calgary in 1912, BURNCO has experienced a remarkable evolution over the past 100 years, transforming from a modest Calgary-based excavation and concrete business into Canada’s largest independent supplier of ready-mix concrete, and a major supplier of asphalt and aggregate products, as well as an operator of a network of landscape centres across western Canada.
While BURNCO has certainly experienced tremendous change over the past century, some things remain the same. Now in its fourth generation of Burns’ family ownership, BURNCO continues to operate according to the same principles of innovation, fairness and square-dealing that helped guide founder Jim Burns when he first started the company in 1912.
“BURNCO is proud of our long history in western Canada and we’re looking forward to continuing our steady, dependable growth into the next century,” said CEO Scott Burns. “When my great grandfather, Jim Burns, started the business, he recognized that supplying quality products and workmanship was not enough. I have every confidence he’d be proud of the way BURNCO operates today.”
BURNCO invites members of the media to celebrate this milestone in the company’s history at BURNCO’s 100th Anniversary Celebration at the Palomino Room, BMO Centre, Stampede Park in Calgary Alberta. Having been the original supplier of the concrete for the Calgary Tower, BURNCO will be lighting the flame of the tower during their Anniversary Celebration this evening.
